Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool striker, tops the shortlist of candidates for the 2025 Player of the Year award, announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Mohamed Salah was crowned top scorer in the English Premier League last season, with 29 goals, for the fourth time in his career, leading the Reds to the local title for the first time since 2020.
Competing for the prize with Salah is Feston Miley, the Egyptian Pyramids star who led the team to African Champions League and Continental Super Cup titles.
Also on the list will be Gabonese Denis Bouanga, player from Los Angeles, who is the second top scorer in the American League behind Argentinian Lionel Messi, captain of Inter Miami.
To this will be added the Cameroonian Frank Anguissa, the Naples player, the Italian champion, the Moroccan Achraf Hakimi, who won the European Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain, and his compatriot Oussama El Melioui, the star of RS Berkane, the Confederation champion.
In the same context, we find the Guinean Sergo Geraci, the German star of Borussia Dortmund, the Senegalese duo Pape Sarr from Tottenham Hotspur and Eleman Ndiaye from Everton, and the Nigerian Victor Osimhen from Galatasaray, champion of the Turkish league.
The best player in Africa:
In terms of the prize for the best African players on the continent, we find the Egyptian Emam Ashour, the star of Al-Ahly, the champion of Egypt, and four of the African champions Pyramids, namely the burkini Platé Touré, the Moroccan Mohamed El-Shibi, Ibrahim Adel and Fiston Miley.
On the list are Mohamed Harmat, Oussama El Meloui and Burkini Issoufou Dayo of RS Berkane.
Alongside them are Ismail Belkacemi of USM Alger and Shoumari Kapombe, the Tanzanian full-back of Simba.
